Mental Health Illness Awareness Week

One in 5 Americans experience some type of mental health condition during their lifetime, according to NAMI’s website. I know it is easy to dismiss ourselves from this category, but if you have ever felt overwhelmed, gone through a loss, had repetitive negative self-talk or difficulties adjusting to a life change. Or if you have in any way felt stalled in life due to your own thoughts, then you may have been experiencing a mental health condition during that crisis. Also, the conditions not only affects the person who suffers with it, but often also those who love the person who is struggling.

“We believe that mental health conditions are important to discuss year-round, but highlighting them during Mental Illness Awareness Week provides a dedicated time for mental health advocates across the country to come together as one unified voice. Since 1990, when the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), advocates have worked together to sponsor activities, large or small, to educate the public about mental illness. ”

Due to the pervasive nature of depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns, we at Clarity Health Solutions are supporting NAMI in their quest to destigmatize therapy. We believe that getting treatment is an opportunity for growth. We also believe that no one should need to struggle alone. Clarity is advocating for everyone to feel good about seeking help during difficult times. We believe that a life challenge is an opportunity to grow and we want to help recognize the growth potential in every hardship. #growwithclarity

This year, NAMI has created an admirable campaign to assist in normalizing mental health struggles and they are moving to eliminate or cure the stigma. The initiative consists basically in promoting the theme of “CureStigma” throughout all awareness events, including Mental Illness Awareness Week which takes place from Oct. 7-13.
